FAQ
Q: Where can I purchase your cutaway locks?
A: All of my cutaways are now for sale at CLKSupplies.com and Lockpicks.com!
Check them out here: https://www.clksupplies.com/collections/vendors?q=Cutaways+LLC
Q: Why are some of your locks cut out on the right side, and other locks cut out on the left side?
A: If possible, I cut my locks on the left side (as viewed with the pins at the top) as that makes it easier to see for us right-handed pickers.
However, many locks (including the American 1100 and PacLock 90A-Pro) are manufactured with an internal screw assembly that would obscure the pins from view if the cutout was on the left side; I have no choice but to cut those locks on the right side instead. You'll notice that others who sell these same cutaway locks online do the exact same. We have no choice, due to how these locks were designed by the manufacturers.
Q: Can I expect cutaway locks to feel the exact same as non-cutaways while picking?
A: No, you should not expect that. Quality cutaways of real locks are helpful in learning to pick them and getting you used to the keyway. They do provide a similar experience to their non-cutaway versions, but there are still some differences due to the removed material. In particular, spool pins may have a deeper false set or require more counter-rotation than their non-cutaway counterparts.
Q: I have a vintage, heirloom, or otherwise expensive lock that I'd like you to cut away. Can you do this?
A: During the development of a new cutaway model, there are inevitably at least a few screw-ups as I get everything dialed in on the CNC machine. I don't want to ruin your lock. You might have better luck finding someone that has a manual milling machine rather than a CNC mill.
Q: I have another question. How can I contact you?
A: Feel free to email me at ryan@cutaways.store. I love to hear from fellow collectors and locksport enthusiasts.
